Lenox Tuscany Classics Grand Beaujolais, Set of 4 Top Quality

I have been looking for some decent sized crystal balloons for quite some time now and originally saw these Lenox Tuscany Classics Grand Beaujolais at Macy's, but couldn't decide between them and the regular sized balloons from the same line. I went back to Macy's and compared the two glasses side by side and decided on the Grand Beaujolais. The standard balloons are smaller than I anticipated.

After returning from Macy's (they were asking the retail price), I found and ordered these glasses from Amazon. I must say however, that after reading some older reviews I was frightened that the glasses would arrive broken. I have to commend Amazon for a timely shipment. They also seem to have addressed the broken glass issue. My glasses were completely wrapped in bubble wrap and in the original box. Not one was broken.

Someone in a previous review mentioned that they had both these glasses and the regular sized balloons and that they preferred the Grand Beaujolais glasses. I have to agree. The wine seems to breathe better, swirling is easier and the fingers of the wine are much more visible. Beautiful glasses, just beautiful!

I got these because they matched the rest of the Riedel Wine series glasses that I own, but am not overly expressed with the look. In my mind, Champagne glasses should be elegant, light glasses which serve to lift the experience of drinking the wine. These are very large, straight glasses which do not excite me in any way. As another reviewer noted, these are big, about as tall as my red wine glasses, which have a huge bowl, yet the bowl on these is straight and uninspired. It looks like they took a stem, created a curve on the bottom of the bowl, then just left the rest of the bowl unfinished. A gradual curve narrowing towards the rim would have given the glass some shape and elegance, something these desperately need. As with all Riedel glasses, these look gorgeous. The lead-free crystal and the thinness of the glass give the set a really classy and elegant appearance.

My only reservation is that the glasses are just a tiny bit too big for sake, and the carafe is rather small. The carafe - even when full to the top - does not hold enough sake for refilling both glasses. And the best sake glasses I've been served in at restaurants have all been significantly smaller. If the glasses had been a little smaller and the carafe significantly larger (say about 50% bigger), I would have happily given this set a fifth star.

Buying Tritan Diva Chardonnay / White Burgundy Wine Glasses (Set of 6

I am a serious wine collector and have owned several sets of crystal stemware over the last 25 years. I was drawn to the Schott Z. products because they are very attractive and I was interested in the break resistent advantage.

I bought this set of 6 Pinot glasses and now 16 months later, there are just two left. These, however, faired better than the Bordeaux glasses; all 6 of them shattered. Not a single one ever hit the floor, nor did even one get toppled over. They (10 of my 12) met far gentler, but very premature, ends

My first two broke in my dishwasher - nothing ever broke in that ASKO dishwasher before. Well, at least they were together when they died - although that's not much consolation for the $30 I had invested in that pair.

So, I thought that I had no option but to wash them by hand - just as I have always done with crystal stem ware. That claimed the next 8 glasses. By now I suspect that you might formulate a mental image of me as some ham-fisted spastic who was simply too rough with them. There has not been much over the years to suggest that it is so, but perhaps it could be argued.

Also, I did not break all 8 though myself, my wife shattered a couple, our adult son, and a couple of friend all had the same experience. While rinsing them out with our bare hands under running water - they simply imploded. I am grateful that no one was hurt. Even after we were all aware that glasses had shattered in the hands of the individual who was washing them at the time, none the less, they kept shattering. Maybe one or two, but when everyone was aware and being especially cautious, they kept on breaking.

I still have complete sets of R***el crystal stem ware from up to 25 years ago. Nome of them ever shattered in my hand. I even use my dishwasher to clean their "O" stemless wine glasses without a single casualty. The only ones that broke, did so by hitting the cruel floor or being back-handed and toppling over.
