I got these because they matched the rest of the Riedel Wine series glasses that I own, but am not overly expressed with the look. In my mind, Champagne glasses should be elegant, light glasses which serve to lift the experience of drinking the wine. These are very large, straight glasses which do not excite me in any way. As another reviewer noted, these are big, about as tall as my red wine glasses, which have a huge bowl, yet the bowl on these is straight and uninspired. It looks like they took a stem, created a curve on the bottom of the bowl, then just left the rest of the bowl unfinished. A gradual curve narrowing towards the rim would have given the glass some shape and elegance, something these desperately need. I have been looking for some decent sized crystal balloons for quite some time now and originally saw these Lenox Tuscany Classics Grand Beaujolais at Macy's, but couldn't decide between them and the regular sized balloons from the same line. I went back to Macy's and compared the two glasses side by side and decided on the Grand Beaujolais. The standard balloons are smaller than I anticipated.

After returning from Macy's (they were asking the retail price), I found and ordered these glasses from Amazon. I must say however, that after reading some older reviews I was frightened that the glasses would arrive broken. I have to commend Amazon for a timely shipment. They also seem to have addressed the broken glass issue. My glasses were completely wrapped in bubble wrap and in the original box. Not one was broken.

Someone in a previous review mentioned that they had both these glasses and the regular sized balloons and that they preferred the Grand Beaujolais glasses. I have to agree. The wine seems to breathe better, swirling is easier and the fingers of the wine are much more visible. Beautiful glasses, just beautiful!

I am, in general, a great fan of Lenox Tuscany stemware. These glasses are yet another example of what I love about the collection. They are, perhaps, the most plain and ordinary looking glasses in the Tuscany collection, but that only lends to their all-purpose convenience. They are intended as water goblets, of course, but their classic wineglass shape is perfect for when you don't want to fuss with matching specific wineglass shapes to specific varietals. And as always, they have the elegantly tall Tuscany stem, which really ups their presentation value.

One word of caution. When I ordered these glasses they initially came broken. In my experience, Amazon is always excellent about replacing damaged items (replacing them quickly and with no added cost to me), and this time was no exception. If you have ever wondered if the right glass can enhance your enjoyment of a good wine, try these. I had a nice collection of riedel stemware and they were amazing in form and function, but I guess I am stone-fisted. I have broken at least 3 hand-washing them. I even wondered if my singing might have contributed. Don't get me wrong, I try to take good care of delicate things. I even do microsurgery so I can have a light touch when necessary, but come on! After breaking my last glass, I opted to give these a try. I bought the big bowls for my big reds, some smaller bowls for my pinot, and the taller version for my whites (rarely used,but nice to have when needed). The larger proportions and less than optimal geometry were a concern, but that has been more than offset by their durability. I have owned these 18 glasses for more than 2 years now and despite our bumps, clinks, even a few shocking knock overs onto the granite counter-top, they have survived. The glasses perform well with a range of different wines and their durability surpasses anything I have experienced.
